The Nightwood Song

Twelve-year-old Sonny Winters can’t hear the strange music coming from the woods beyond his house at night. His little brother, Toby, can hear it. His grandfather can hear it. Sometimes the eerie music sounds like a carnival calliope, Sonny’s family reports, while other nights they can hear a woman singing distantly.

But no matter how hard Sonny tries, often staying up well past midnight, he still can’t seem to hear the music. He wishes his family would stop talking about it, but almost every morning he finds his grandfather or brother outside, sleepwalking, mumbling about the music, drawn a little nearer to the foggy woods each time.

It isn’t until Toby wanders off one morning, becoming lost in the woods, that Sonny finally hears the music. Can he manage to pinpoint its source and rescue his brother before it’s too late, or will he find himself consumed by the dark family secrets hidden deep within the Nightwood?
